Baby bird

So Erin asked my if I wanted to go for a road trip, translation, lets go check out those budgies. 

I'm keen. I want the yellow one I've seen pictures of. After Joshua met Splash he's less keen on the idea. Isaac is all for it. He can't wait. He's allergies have settled down a lot so I'm hoping the feathers don't affect him. 

Josh and I have purchased a cage from Shiploads. *cringe* I hate the name of that store. At first I thought it was perfect, upon assembling it I discovered an issue with the handle. After much fiddling I fixed the problem. 

I try surprising Isaac but he is calm, like he knew all along I'd let him have it. Maybe I spoil the child too much.

Erin nurses the cage on the way back home. She much calmer than me. I'm worried the bird will get stressed. On the way home we discuss names. When Tweety is suggested Isaac expresses him concern that maybe the name is Trademarked. LOL

He settles on Topaz. It's a gem in his Deltoraquest books. We discover Topaz isn't a yellow gem, but that's okay. It's a cool name. 

Joshua is a bit timid at first, he's worried he'll be pooed on. 

Isaac could not be happier. This is the first pet he is responsible for.

It all started with Harry (aka Splash).

Erin turned up at my house with a request, could I budgie-sit. I am hesitant at first because the last birds she got scared the crap out of me. But this bird is different. It's hand raised and extremely tame. Also I'm not required to do much, the birdcage just sits in my lounge room. 

When Erin leaves I notice the bird has no water. I put some in the container but immediately wonder if I've done the right thing.... can budgies drown??? I take the risk as I don't think she wants a dehydrated bird.

Maybe I'm good at this bird whispering stuff. I even let Harry out to stretch his very young wings. 

The name Harry has come from One Direction, Keira's idea, Erin is not keen on it. His name only lasts a day before they change it. Personally I like the name. Not the boy band so much. So Harry became Splash. Because of his blue feathers. The name suits him, a week later he splashes into Erin's drink, sending her into a panic. But that's another story.

By the time Erin returns for Harry I am convinced that "I want one". A week later we welcome Topaz to the household.
